Lomachenko advances to final

(BEIJING, August 22) -- Medal favorite Vasyl Lomachenko of Ukraine posted another convincing victory, 10-1, over Turkey's Yakup Kilic, to advance to the gold medal bout of the Olympic Boxing competition's featherweight (57kg) class. The gold medal match will be held tomorrow at 7:36 p.m. local time (UTC/GMT +8).

Lomachenko made the better start, leading 4-0 after the first two rounds. Kilic managed to pull one score back in the third round, but it turned out to be a mere consolation. The fourth round ended at 2-0 in favor of the Ukrainian.

Lomachenko has defeated a series of tough opponents to reach the semifinals, including Russia's Albert Selimov, the reigning world and European champion and China's Li Yang, the bronze medalist at last year's World Championships.

Fighting with Lomachenko in the final will be France's Khedafi Djelkhir. Djelkhir booked the final berth because his opponent, Shahin Imranov of Azerbaijan, withdrew from the bout in the second round.

Kilic and Imranov will both be awarded bronze medals.
